Focal Point

The Focal Point module allows you to specify the portion of an image that is most important and save that as x,y coordinates that can be used when scaling and/or croping an image.

Example use cases:

Say you have a 1200px banner image that shows a photographer (on the left) taking a picture of a turtle (on the right). This banner works well in a desktop view-port but not so well on a mobile device. So let's center the crop on the turtle. With the turtle's head as the focal point, when the image is cropped to less than 600px, what you'll get is just the turtle and maybe a better image.

Now, say you have another portrait image that shows the photographer off-centre and with too much headroom. Again, this image works well in a desktop view-port, but on a mobile device you'd like to better position the crop tool. You can do that by selecting an appropriate focal point and then define an image style that uses the Focal Point Scale & Crop effect.
