Drupal Capabilities - ecommerce with completely custom front-end

Hello,

I was wondering if I could get some advice. My company needs to make an e-commerce website, with a unique, custom front-end design. Additionally, among other things, there will be a blog, discussing new products. From the blog, the user needs to have the ability to add products to the webcart, without navigating to the webstore (popup div container).

Module Devt & Theming Tutorials - Drupal 6 or 7? Lullabot or buildamodule or ...?

I am a Drupal newbie who is trying to evaluate my best options to learn 2 things first: THEMING & MODULE DEVELOPMENT

(I know basics of Drupal and can build simple websites that do not require custom php coding, so trying to learn now)

I need to learn 2 things very well - THEMING & MODULE DEVT.

I have 2 questions for which I am looking for perspective from some experienced folks here:

1. Is there a big difference between Drupal 6 and 7 for Theming and Module Devt?

thinking through: book with 1-3 questions on each page

I want to write a workbook (book module is perfect) with 1-3 questions on each page, that people can go back and see or edit their answers, and I can create views of interesting answers ... think of a self-help workbook.

Here's a bad way I could do it:

  • create a cck type and a block/panel for each and every question, find a way to embed each form in a block, and move them by hand to the correct book-page on the blocks/panels interfaces. If I have 50 questions going on 30 pages, that will move around as the book gets written, this would work but be a nightmare... if I add a new question on page 10 and want to bump pages 10-20 each to the next page, I have to do each page one at a time... probably making changes like this over and over.

The ideal version would, I think:

  1. Let me slide questions around from page to page with a gui, much like you can reorganize a book. And not have 30 or 50 page-specific blocks.
  2. Have one large cck form instead of creating 30 (~one for each page of the workbook), and be able to pick the questions per page.
  3. Expose other peoples answers for 5-star and complex viewing.
  4. Questions are ajaxy with primary questions as checkboxes that reveal secondary questions. (this is probably a separate problem from the overall site design.)

Drupal 6 or 7?

I am starting to learn Drupal. I know Drupal 6 as an beginner user (do not know how to develop custom module). I want to use many modules already available on drupal.org but I am confused as to which Drupal version i should leard - 6 or 7. Many modules I want to use are not available in Drupal 7.

Is there a site or a page that clearly explains the intricate differences between Drupal 6 and 7. From learning perspective, which concepts are different and need to be re-learnt for Drupal 6?

Dynamic Page creation as Users Create Accounts

Hey All;

Have been designing websites for years, and have been getting more and more requests for Drupal based sites.

I need to know if Drupal has the potential to have clients sign-up, have a personal page dynamically created and databased, and then for that user to be able to log into their account and be directed right to their personal page and/or sub-pages?

Appreciate any and all answers, examples would be great as well.

Thank you for your time!

Is Drupal right for me?

I am looking for the correct solution for what my company (a software vendor) is wanting to do. In my explanation, I am going to use the example of a chain of movie theaters as our customers. Our company wants to administer the Drupal site.

1. Each movie theater that owns our software can sign up for our web portal.

2. Each theater that signs up will have their own site created within our Drupal site where they can post their information.
