Baggage Freight

Even with the recent surge in popularity of Wordpress, Drupal remains as one the “Big 3” when we talk about content management systems. There are several shopping cart systems available for use with Drupal, with the market leader being UberCart. It’s a mature and feature packed system with a large developer base.

Now it’s even more powerful with the addition of our Australian freight comparison module for UberCart. Using our module, your customers will be able to compare the freight prices of many Australian couriers competing to win your business, and then get a live freight price they use to check out with.

As the store owner, you will convert more sales because of the great freight prices, as well as the immediacy for the client. Many more sales are successfully completed when the buyer knows immediately the total cost including freight for their order.

Our Drupal freight comparison plugin takes your shopping cart where single freight provider options such as Australia Post cannot travel. For starters, Australia post only deals with small parcels, unable to delivery larger items that are either long/wide or more than 20kilograms. Such systems also don’t allow you to do a price comparison.

Serials Solutions list management tool

Link maker in action

Serials Solutions provides institutional access to to e-journals and e-books. Participating members also have access to the raw data that populates tools such as the Serials Solutions Journal Portal. Serials Solutions uses the LCC headers from the call numbers courtesy of Columbia University - and this gives our patrons a general taxonomy for viewing our content. In our world, however, it is often useful to apply discipline specific vocabularies to content. This set of feature modules helps facilitate that while maintaining consistent linkage.

Sample use case: Our nursing liaison wants to apply a new taxonomy to our content. Her patrons may not be familiar with LCC terms or there may be clearer wording specific to their field. By importing the SS data we are able to act on it using custom taxonomies. New lists of resources are made by our librarian staff. Additionally the links are maintained up to date - a consistent challenge in a field where resource providers are often buying and selling to the various resources thus changing the URL.

We looked at tools such as LibGuides, however they do not allow us to continually ingest information from SS - thus it was possible for links to become out dated unless a librarian manually updated the LibGuides data.
