I am looking for some advice and an honest answer to see if I should join the Drupal community.
I usually stick to Wordpress for fairly basic sites and for more complex sites, I pretty much write them myself from scratch. This is what I'm looking to move to Drupal for, especially for my next project.
I have a client (golf club) who I wrote a site for some time ago and they now want it updated. It has a number of article based pages, a discussion forum, diary page (for competitions and events), course information etc. I also wrote a CMS for the administrators to use. I would like to write the new site using Drupal but have been looking at certain aspects of the site that I would need, and that I can't find solutions for. If anyone could tell me if the following is possible and maybe point me in the general direction so I can investigate further, that would be wonderful.
I have been tasked with figuring out the best way to transfer the information (book) from a very large website to Drupal. The clients would like update their site but are confused and worried about transferring all the content. The existing site basically has a 2000 page book indexed on it with robust search capabilities.
My question is is Drupal a proper CMS for this task? Can I hire developers for a reasonable price when we have trouble?
I want to switch my website into Drupal 8.x. But how? My website URL is www.tinyjewelhouse.com. It is done by another CMS. Please make me clear about it.
I'm planning on moving some forums from vbulletin to Drupal. The problem is that I want to avoid adding more content to the current drupal database (MySQL) and I was wondering if its possible to keep the forums in a different database.
I know it's possible to have two drupal instalations sharing the same codebase (which is basically what I want) but how can I limit this second drupal instalation to be only forums (i.e. avoid users in the forum sections to navigate to any other non forum URL in the forums drupal installation).
Im kind of looking for a good (or the best) book about Developing sites with Drupal (Modules, themes, programming). I may say that im not looking for a newbie guide into Drupal but and advanced guide for fashioning Drupal to any project requirements - and how to get it done.
I found this book "Upgrading Your Online Website Application to Drupal 6.x - Victor Kane " and from what Amazon let me read it might be the one.
