Before you start

I am just getting started with building my first web site and a friend recommend Drupal. However I am looking for some basic requirements so I can plan before I get started. I have a technical background but unfortunately Linux is not part of that background so. If I could just get a few requirements spelled out for me that would be great. A few questions.

i know there are a module like as the picture,but to show the format, i will open the blank window. i don't want to open a blank window in the parent windows.

I've been scouring the forums to get clarity on this and have yet to find anything really definitive.

I'm looking for clues on how to stitch together a paid membership site and what modules to use and in what order and design.
Are any paid membership sites currently being used by any members here? URL?
How was it constructed? What modules did you use? Any sort of online tutorials available so I can follow the bouncing ball to get a clearer idea on the method of construction?

Any help would be fabulous indeed.

i've installed Drupal in multi Sites and its works fine, I've shared most of table,s
But my Q's is i need re-install and shared the following between multi sites
What I needs to be shared is content.
Themes, administrative setting, security, etc can be unique to each site.
Categories for content can be shared if that helps make things workable.
also ability to password protect the content if desired (a membership site using Drupal).

Hello, I have been running in circles today trying to figure out what setting I have wrong and alas, I need some professional help from you guys. I can't create a story in my create content sidebar menu. Everytime I go to post a new story (which I am using as my main pages that I am hoping to drop under my specific menu item headlines) the only options I am given are: book page, forum topic, and issue.

I have tried to search through creating new 'nodes' but I can't find anything through this that helps me.

Allow the business to register their business including entering there postcode and address.
Some customisation of the business/profile pages (i.e list of services, pictures, company logo etc)

A visitor to the site searches for the business by postcode distance or location.
