Drupal 6 worth it yet?

After researching many different content management systems, I have settled on using Drupal. I've worked out how I'm going to deploy multiple installations with a shared codebase, etc. In fact, I've decided how I'm going to do everything, except which version of Drupal to use.

The way I see it, right now, is that Drupal 5.x has a tremendous amount of modules available to it, plus existing support, etc. Drupal 6.x looks like it has the potential to be much better (though I'm unsure of the exact changes) but not all of the really useful modules are available yet.

Basically, I'm wanting to know, starting mostly from scratch but with a shared codebase (I'll be using many different hosting accounts under one VPS for various clients, using symbolic links to make updating easier) would I be better off going with 5.x now and upgrading all hosted websites when 6.x starts picking up more support, or making do with 6.x until the support comes? Are there any pressing advantages to using 6 now? How tricky is it to update from 5.x to 6.x?

My way of working with multiple sites is listed here http://www.zygar.co.nz/drupsetupreqs.txt (not using multisite because I want to keep the hosting accounts separated from each other - this tricks Drupal into thinking it is a single site while pulling the code from a central source!)

System Requirements help please: Windows OS for developing, and Linux Hosting

Hello,

I have a Windows OS computer which will be used for developing the Drupal Site; and my web hosting plan works on Linux.

How do I set about my system requirements? Since my hosting is Linux, should I develop the site in a Linux environment or is it alright to use Windows?

I am new to using Content Management systems. I'd appreciate anyone who can help me through this.

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,
Swarup

Nave user trying to get started with Drupal

Apologies in advance everybody,

Two friends have strongly recommended Drupal to me, since it is time I
learned a good CMS. I am a naive user of CMSs for authoring webpages,
though I have hand-coded a couple of sites in HTML
[ http://www.otherlanguages.org is my site, 7 years old and updated several
times a week in HTML] and had to use Typo3 while working at a VoIP firm in 2005.

So while I am very much a novice at this stage, I believe I will understand quickly if someone can explain things to me in simple English.

Requirements : there seems to be a long list of things I require [Apache, PHP] "at" my web server, but I don't really understand what this means. I use internet cafes here in Budapest heavily, and sometimes WiFi at different locations with my laptop. I have no home ISP account.

So I do not really know what "my" server is, unless you mean the [doteasy.com] server in Vancouver that hosts my site www.otherlanguages.org.

If I want to develop a simple text site using Drupal as a way of learning about this CMS, what must I do? Is there no way I can just download what I need onto my laptop, put it together, and give the code to my friend after a bit of testing?

page title (not node #) in URL possible?

Just installed drupal 6.1 and enabled clean urls.
The install was smooth. Thanks!

Is it possible to have URLs that use the page title instead of the node number?

I've installed the wikitools module and it almost does what I need. That is, http:site.com/wiki/Main_Page will get you to the "Main Page", but does so via a redirect to http:site.com/node/1 .

Flickr integration

Hey,
currently I have a domain running drupal 5.1.
I have photos which are public available at my flickr page.
These photos should be _fully_ integrated into my domain.

At the moment I have done this using a slightly modified version of flickrhood.
But I want to let my users comment the pictures (the comments should be saved to drupal, not flickr)

How can I achive this without a lot of headache? ;)
(It is no problem to update to a newer version of drupal)

Have a nice day
