Is Drupal a viable solution for my website? Please review What is Drupal before posting.

How well can Drupal handle a large web site consisting of smaller sites (or sub sections)?

At the moment, I have a fairly large website. It consists of smaller separate yet interconnected sites. Each one having its own main menu, sub menus, templates, etc. It is currently written in Cold Fusion. Site maintenance is done through FTP + text editor. But I'm looking to move the site to a CMS so that new pages and news items can be added and edited through a web interface.

Is it possible to create a site like this using a single Drupal install? Basically what I need to be able to do is to create a main menu for each smaller site or section. When I create--or one of my site contributers creates--a new page, I need to be able to assign it to one of the sections and an appropriate template needs to be applied. (Templates are assigned on a page by page basis and done so by site contributers, not site readers.) I also need to be able to give out varying levels of access. For example, user 2 might have access to edit pages in sections A and B, but user 3 have access to sections B and C.

I realize this is a big task, I'm not looking for a quick way to do it, just to know if it's possible at all and if Drupal is a viable solution. I'm looking at various open source and commercial products to do this and thought you guys might be able to give me some good insight.

Is it possible with drupal?

Is it possible?
1) E-shop that have deep categories
2) That categories are shown in menu tree
3) Create custom forms to add/edit/delete data from db

Thanks in advance

Very unsatisfied Joomla user - Hoping Drupal can be a better solution ??

I have been using Joomla for nearly two years now. I spent the first year creating my site (I can onyl spend a few hours a week on it), and the last year adding content and modifying it. However, I am VERY unhappy with it. It looked spiffy at the beginning, which is why I picked it. Now that I know more coding and php, I am seeing that Drupal is probably a better option. One of my main issues with Joomla is the "community" aspect of it. Sure there is Community Builder and such, but no real "group" options, and EVERYTHING seems so buggy. A community is more than just a forum.

So my questions below are twofold - can Drupal handle this, AND what route should I start using to test this (nodes and modules to use). Thanks in advance for any tips for a newbie.

1. Groups - This is what I believe is sorely lacking in Joomla. From what have read, Drupal can handle what I want to do.

2. Event Calendar. I would like an event calendar, listing by state

3. Classified Ads - I would like the user be able to upload multiple images for the ad.

4. Forum - Nothing special. I know Drupal is known not to have the best forum software/features, but my users will probably not be "sophisticated" geeks for it to matter.

5. Wiki - This is one of the crucial pieces. I know Drupal is good with wiki pages, but can it handle the below criteria?

I can't open drupal 6.1, what are the steps

I am having trouble opening the software that I downloaded. What are the steps. I downloaded the trial version of winzip and it brings up all the files within the software, but I can't open the general whole software. I am a new idiot, please tell me the steps. Thanks. Kevin byrd
