Enter Password on Registration or Batch Sending Email

I am new to drupal and I havent installed it yet. I believe that this is a great CMS because of some words from my friends. I would like to ask if there is an option where users can Enter thier Password on Registration or Batch Sending Email Passwords, because my servers actually has a limit of sending emails per day.

Another would be, is there an option in the forum component that they can receive a notification when replied by another user where is it not prompted to unsubcribe before or after replying but after receiving the email.

Thank you so much

A few questions on Drupal I couldn't find answers too...

Greetings everyone. I hope I will be forgiven if these questions are answered somewhere already. I looked through the FAQ and "search" for an answer but didn't really get a clear one. I am looking for some software for my Masonic lodge to do the following:

1) Calendaring, for scheduling events etc. It would be great if it could be integrated with iCal.

2) A way to store PDF/TIFF images of scans I am doing of lodge records. This at the moment consists of simple cards of members that were used before we went to computers. Name, Address, DOB, when they joined, are they current on their dues, how many years have they been a member, etc. Pretty boring mundane stats. But the cards go back close to 100 years and we have cabinets full of these I want to scan and archive for our history.

3) Membership list with contact information so the members can keep in contact with each other and they wont have to keep asking various other members "Hey do you have so and so's phone # or email?".
This has started to get out of hand because no one in my lodge can seem to remember anyones details :)

4) I prefer to be able to store all this in a PostgreSQL database. I know many prefer MySQL but one of my attractions to Drupal is its neutral stance for backends and its ability to use PG.

Need advice on nested sites

I am developing a site and need advice on how to accomplish certain features. I am new at Drupal much past a simple blog site.

What I would like to have is a community site where people can build a small nested site of their own within the community. These should have a few pages on a menu from their base page. It would look something like:

Bakers.org (overall site)
+Forums
+Articles
+Blogs
+Etc
+Big Bob's Bakery (mini-site for a bakery owner) example 1
-welcome/about page
-our store
-directions to the bakery
-blog/announcements
-etc
+Coastal Bakery Association(mini-site for a bakery group) example 2
-welcome/about page
-Member list (can be static listing or dynamic)
-event calendar
-blog/announcements
-etc

It looks as if OG can handle example 2 where all visitors may have a very select interest these groups. But for example 1 a separate signup would not be necessary and may be detrimental. Also in example 1 a menu of the subpages would be needed. I would like to be able to offer people a brochure type site that would be very easy for them to setup, no special domain or hosting required.

evaluation of Drupal

Hello to everybody,
I am interesting to a CMS in order to migrate my actual website. I read a lot of comments on the net about other products and finally I've found Drupal as a good candidate.

As is:
My website is a static site of almost 2000 pages. Most of them are in italian, some others in english and spanish.

The content is highly organized into hierarchies and there are two types of it:

File Management

I was wondering if Drupal had some type of file management system. I have several users on my current system that are able to upload files and then only have access to those files and no one elses.
