Before you start

I'm wondering which version of Drupal to use.

I want to create a craigslist type site with the ability for users to create communities and also match items that they have for sale with items they are looking for.

Was hoping someone could tell me the best version of Drupal to use. Would it still be 5? Or maybe 6 would now have more modules that suit me better.
