I posted this on the general discussion forum before realizing I should have done so here so please forgive duplicate postings. I'm totally new to inserting forums into websites, but would really, really like to accomplish this task. I actively participate in an online forum and found out that they were using the Drupal platform. I really like it better than most that I've used. Here's what I need to know:
I am considering the use of drupal. I would like to know how granular drupal's access control mechanism is. For instance, can you define groups? Do these groups then give selective access to various parts of the system, e.g. news articles, calendar events owned by specific site members and editable only by them - assuming of course that the various modules and extensions enable this to happen.
I have been trying different approaches to building an accessible resource / social website for use by persons with disabilities.
With each attempt I begin sailing only to run into a show-stopper. I began with MediaWiki as a way to get my feet wet in the new (for me) world of LAMP and before long the site was inundated with spam and I couldn't seem, at that time, to get my head around LAMP technology. At that point, I tried wordpress and also began to run into some issues because of my ignorance of this platform.
I ran back to the more familiar (to me) environment of Microsoft in the form of Windows Sharepoint Services and felt empowered with the ease with which I could throw up subsites, create lists, etc. However I found myself getting entangled in trying to make the site accessible to persons with disabilities (Section 508, W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). I found that webparts (modules) would output layout tables and other inaccessible code and the idea of having to the many details of master pages began cooling my enthusiasm and momentum.
Sorry for asking this question that seems primitive, but the search function didn’t return any clear answer.
It’s about a news website for members, with a teaser for no members.
On the front page, the no members should be able to read the title and the teaser. A click on “Read more” sends the user to the body of the article if he is logged in. Otherwise, he’ll be asked to login or to sign in.
Althought it seems trivial, I cannot find an easy way to do so, unless I missed something?
Thank you for your help before I start with drupal 6.
