Can Drupal do this?

Hi all,

I'm thinking of converting a RoR-project-in-progress to Drupal but I need to know if Drupal can do what I need. I don't mind if I will need to develop some custom modules, but its been 10 years since I last programmed in PHP so the less I need to custom develop, the better. I have checked Drupal's features and most of my requirements are met, but I'm not clear on one or two things.

Specifically, I want registered users to be able to publish their own articles, but with pre-defined sections and meta-information in a format that they are required to adhere to. In short, I need to build a custom form for the input. The input will be done in textile format, not WYSIWYG or (full/restricted) HTML, and I will need to modify the submitted textile-fields before they are stored in the database (or rendered to HTML). Obviously, given the custom article format I will need to be able to control the way the articles are displayed as well. The articles should be version-controlled, and any registered user may edit any other user's article (so there will be no article-ownership). Articles can be assigned to multiple categories. Articles will be publicly accessible, if possible using dynamic friendly-url's based on the article's title. Visitors should be able to submit comments to every article, which will be displayed along side the article itself.

Calling All Drupalistas with Portal Experience - Quick SnapShot of what I might need

Hello Drupalistas!

I am considering using Drupal for an Entertainment Portal. Is this possible and if so some module suggestions for someone who is a Photoshop and Dreamweaver Expert. Stop Laughing :)

The dilemma is that the content would be created by those attending the site, our station does not have resources such as a http://www.miami.com or http://www.nwsource.com with staffers to upload calendar data.

Please help with the following.

1. Create accounts for ACTS (Local Bands, Local Musicians, Local Karoake/DJ's) to place their gigs onto the site.
ACTS data would include venue, date(s), start time, end time, cover, etc.
Ultimately their profile page would include photos, bios, songs(mp3), genre, anything relevant to someone going to see them.

2. The VENUE would have a similar profile page displaying DIFFERENT ACTS that have toggled their venue as one they will be playing, PLUS including those ACTS that DO NOT have profiles on the site.

3. USERS could rate/review ACTS and VENUES. They could also register to receive TEXT notifications of when and where their favorite ACTS are performing.

I am not a developer

I have spent countless hours over the last 2 months looking for a similar solution and have not found any. I do not want to use Turn Key .ASP products.

How much PHP would I have to know to do something like this in Drupal?

Making a virtual pet website

I've been using v-petsite.com for the making of my petsite, but the coding on the site is so messed up, I can't edit anything properly.
So a friend recommended Drupal. :]

I need a load of things, so I'm trying to figure out which modules I should use. Here we go!
I need:

-A register, login, logout, and lost password page
-Forums with moderator capabilities, avatars, and signatures. Custom fonts aren't necessary.
-A inventory system, along with a 'safety deposit box', which keeps random events and normal events from accessing the items.
-A bank that allows withdrawing/depositing points.
-A point system. I'm using 2 different types of points.
-2 navigation bars on each side of the main page.
-1 is for navigation, and 1 is for the active pet, new messages, and friends of the user that are online
-A friend system, they can add/remove users, and it shows on their profile.
-A gallery for items the user doesn't want to sell, and wants to show off.
-A shop for users where they can sell the items they don't want
-This needs 2 seperate pages for customizing the shop for others and changing item prices
-Shops stocked by the site that restock automatically
-A trade center for users to trade items and pets
-The pet and item section need to be seperated
-All trades need to be displayed, and a search of trades needs to be there.

very basic site with form

Hopefully, this conversion will be short and sweet. I inherited a joomla site for this domain, it was total mess, so I condensed it down to more or less, a single page site: http://playanaranjo.net/

The only features the site has is lightbox images in the content area and a form on the right in what would be a module area in drupal I think. I have not yet worked with adding forms into the template and am wondering how I would go about configuring the site to have a form there in that manner.
