Is it possible to build an online flight searcher with Drupal?
For instance could you make expedia.com or lastminute.com using Drupal? If not, which platform should I use then?

In the node "Is Drupal the right tool for the job" (http://drupal.org/node/346217) it is meant that Drupal is designed for creating web applications and mashups using third party API's. Will that do then?

Hello, I would like to create a password for a group of 190 people, and I want this website to have only 190 members, without a signup page. I already have a list of all these people.
My idea would be to create 190 users, and print out 190 papers, each with a temporary password for each user and hand them out individually at the University. How can I do such a thing with Drupal?

Firstly, I would like to apologise if this is a repeated question, I have looked through similar threads and have set up Drupal locally and have experimented with it to test it's capabilities.

I am really trying to ascertain whether Drupal is a suitable avenue for me to pursue to achieve my objectives and if so, how best to go about it. I am a software consultant with experience in enterprise solutions but limited web development experience.

I am trying to create a site where users can create opportunities which can then be purchased by other users (would require a 2 tiered member system, sellers and consumers). To add to this, each opportunity must have custom details related to them which I can specify and they can be consumed by multiple consumers. Eg, selling 4 spaces at a concert on a given date, each consumer buys one which will then decrease the availability by 1. Once all availability disappears, the opportunity will be hidden. To add extra complication, the consumer can then cancel which will update the opportunity and make it appear again when searched for. In order to support this, I will require functionality to search by criteria selected from dropdown lists (which I can populate), select opportunities, pay for them, receive email confirmations (both buyer and seller).

I've been searching for a while, but I'm afraid I need a bit of help tracking this down. Any help on terms to search for or a base to start digging in would be helpful!

Here's what I want to do:
Create a content type that already contains some information. Although I definitely DO NOT WANT TO BUILD A SHOPPING CART, I'll use the example of an "electronic device" as my content type. I'll create a series of nodes that contain CCK fields for the type of device, brand and model.

With this information in mind, a user can then either use a form or create a new node in which they can use either autofill or drop-down box to select a specific node from "electronic device" content type. Then they'd be able to manually enter in how many of the devices they need. So I'd have a user-defined data set of something like:

Device - Brand - Model - Number
MP3 Player - Apple - Ipod - 5
MP3 Player - Microsoft - Zune - 9
DVD Player - LG - 570 - 2

From this information, I'd like to show the result in a view, with the different fields grouped by device, listing brand and number needed:

MP3 Players
Apple Ipod -5
Microsoft Zune - 9
Total MP3 Players - 14
DVD Players
LG 570 - 2
Total DVD Players - 2

If you have watched "The social network" you probably know Facemash. I intend to develop a site that is similar in concept. Of course, I won't be comparing girls but consumer products like soaps, shampoo etc. I want to use similar algorithm for comparison. I searched and found out that it is something called "Elo rating". I am not very familiar with PHP or MySQL. Is there any module or easy way to start my site? Please help me. Thanks.
