There have been a number of discussions about Multisites vs Organic Groups and Domain Access. for instance http://drupal.org/node/252323. I would like to propose a slightly different use case and see if perhaps the recommendation has changed since some of the module have matured.
I am going to be working a on a project that will will have multiple location based portholes, in a fashion that is similar to craigs list. Here are some of the requirements.
the site will be spit in to subdomains based on location ie chicago.mysite.com newyork.mysite.com
each site will have the same design, with custom content based on what area geographic area you area accessing
ideally the user table, as well as the authentication table should be shared across all sites
in addition some of the cck nodes should be shared across all site
In researching possible solutions It seems like there are three possibilities.
I'm a designer with some (limited) web development experience and skills. I've built a static/table driven site for a client and now they want to have CMS functionality. What's the best way to go about integrating the Drupal CMS with this? I have looked through the Drupal site and seem to get a little lost! Any help would be hugely appreciated. Like I say, I'm a bit of a newbie to this all and some of it is going over my head a little
I've randomly heard about and seen Drupal, but have no idea where to get started. I have a website that I am working on and would like to see if I can implement Drupal. Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as good information, tutorials, etc?
If you had 2 seperate servers to run an apache server, mysql database, memcache instance and apache solr server, what would be the best way to split them up to maximise efficiency?
I'm looking to use Drupal for the school I work for. I have done a lot of work with Drupal as freelance before working here, so I'm not scared of getting dirty.
I want to create a sort of microsite for each class, so only related content shows in the class microsite. The type of content will be like News, photos, letters etc. Each content could be related to more than one class. I was originally thinking of using OG but I feel taxonomy would be better. The only problem I think I will have with taxonomy is not being able to limit people to there microsite.
