Business

I don't know how to say this without it sounding like I'm flaming. The developers here at Drupal are screwing up. I'm going to use limousines as an example here. Let's say a person goes out and buys a stretched Cadillac limousine, but it is always in the shop because things keep going wrong with it, that man is going to give up eventually and he is going to buy himself a Lincoln stretched limousine for his business. Now as his business expands he is going to keep buying the Lincolns because he has had no problems with it, and eventually he is going to end up with a fleet of Lincolns. Now let's suppose a person tries to use free software like Drupal, Joomla!, Mambo, Wordpress etc. to build his website, If one doesn't work, he is going to go to the one that does. When his business expands he and he wants to upgrade he is going to buy the premium modules, themes, extensions, whatever, for the software that has met his needs, he is not going to go back to the software that didn't work simply because they have a module that will fit his needs, he will more than likely hire someone to build a similar module for the software he has decided to go with. And that is where Drupal is messing up I believe.

How to get the field values of a content type

Hi all,

How can I get the field value of a custom content type. I have created a custom content type using the CCK module. Is there any function to get the array of the fields of a particular content type.

For eg: I can get the profile details using content_profile_load() function.

Please help me!!..

Notes to consider when building an e-commerce site

Hello people!

Just signed on this forum, as I am a new member and haven't ever used Drupal.
I am thinking of doing so though, so before I start, I would appreciate some of your help...

I was approached to design and develop an e-commerce site for a small womenswear fashion brand.
The brand will produce new pieces each season as usual. Womenswear, shoes and accessories.

I have designed their main site, so we had a discussion about the shop the other day.
Unfortunately my knowledge regarding the matter is very limited, as I am more of a front-end developer with some basic knowledge in other areas.
I learn though, mainly through forums and tutorials (on the internet).

Looking into options on making an e-commerce site I have narrowed it down to three. I am sure there are more, but for now, i'm presenting three....

1. Drupal - which seems to be the most flexible - but would definitely require me to learn a lot of new things (valuable i suppose)
2. Prestashop - which seems kind of a risk, but easier to set up (maybe a lot more expensive)
3. Volusion inc - which I don't know much about, but I guess it represents a kind of e-commerce that has a monthly price and therefore should work like a charm.

Furthermore,
My questions regarding Drupal and e-commerce are :

Any drupal sites with heavy jQuery/Javascript usage?

Anyone know of any website that has been developed in drupal and uses a lot of jquery and javascript? I am interested in seeing what developers have been able to achieve within drupal in terms of javascript/jquery type effects?

Drupal Book

Hello,

Just looking for a good Drupal book that explains the internals of the framework. That explains what are hooks, etc. Which will be the best book with this info?

Thanks.

is it possible to have a slideshow on the front page that displays the top three posts on my drupal 7 site?

The subject says it all - is it possible to have a slideshow on the front page that displays the top three posts on my drupal 7 site?

The site is like a blog, so it would be nice if I could get a slideshow going on on the top of my homepage, or front page as we call it in Drupal. I'm going to be using Drupal 7. Any help would be greatly appreciates, thank you ahead of time.
