Installing Drupal

I am planning to configure recruiter package available at the following URL.

Did any one has experience or guidelines of using or configuring this drupal distribution.

Please provide any instructions you may have.

There is the need to make a site available from a subdirectory.
e.g Move the site from www.test.com and make it available only under URL www.test.com/newsite. The latter URL must be shown only.

I am having a problem during my Drupal (7.31) Installation trying to connect to my database. I looked around on the forums and couldnt find an answer to my specific problem. The problem occurs during the "Setup your database" section of the Drupal /install.php.
The error is:

Drupal Server Install Failed to connect to your database server. The server reports the following message: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Permission denied.

How I can configure php? or how I can install Drupal 7?

I am not a developer, I am merely the owner of a business with a website. The designer of my website is no longer available and has passed the login details to me for management and now I am having problems with the site as I can see there are updates available and I don't know how to update them??

I have tried to follow instructions but I they make no sense to my untrained mind.

Is this something someone like me can actually do or is it not possible? I need my site running smoothly before an event on Sunday!
