Installing Drupal

I downloaded and installed the panopoly distribution (7.x-1.11 recommended download)... but it is missing several key items. The page says it was all prepackaged... but when the tar.gz file is opened, some key modules appear not to be included... no views, no chaos tools, no panelizer... etc. etc. etc. They seem pretty fundamental and I expected they'd be there.

Since a few months I'm using Drupal on a daily base - I am quite satisfied with the resuts.
Now I have set up my first shop using Ubercart - with intensive use of the panelizer... makes it a bit slow, but it's looking good. Everything works fine (except rounding to 5 cents).

I have activated PayPal, PayPal-express and credit-card modules... but except the credit card payments in the sandbox, there's no way to get that thing working, Allthough, sandbox credit-card authentification seems to be an absolute fake.

I tried out D8 on my local machine and all went well without problems.

Now, since D8 beta is out, I would like to set-up a testsite on my production-environment.

Just after installing, I always get the following error while visiting the frontpage:

Page not found
The requested page "/" could not be found.

The database-tables are created, the DB-connection is ok.
The htaccess-file is located in te docroot.

PHP-version is 5.4

Are there any other things I have to check?
D7 Is working perfect on this environment.

I'm new to drupal and trying to configure my computer to start using drupal but everytime i check the status report i get :

Upload progress Not enabled
Your server is capable of displaying file upload progress, but does not have the required libraries. It is recommended to install the PECL uploadprogress library (preferred) or to install APC

ive tried reinstalling 3 times thinking i did something wrong in the setup....plz help!!!

I have beeb trying to install drupal on my local machine but i keep getting this error:

fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in C:\xampp\htdocs\drupal\includes\database\database.inc line 2171

Any help or suggestions.
