Installing Drupal

drupal 8 is requiring php extension fileinfo witch is not available on my web hosting server
i talked to them today and told me that extension will not be available only if i upgrade to a VPS server
i understand that this extension is hard to implement on a shared domain
so what should i do in this case
my web site is very small not more than 20 views/day

I'm new to Drupal and installed it by git clone http://git.drupal.org/project/drupal.git and git checkout 8.0.x.

When I now after some days (which means lots of new commits) say git pull more or less nothing works anymore.

I try to install D8 on ubuntu 14.04 (all default ubuntu packages). The whole install process works fine and the page comes up ... however, it is more or less unusable:

The installation process became endless during the "install profile" at 8/9 in minimal mode and at 27/28 in standard mode.
What happens?

I tried the installation process 5 o 6 times using 7.28 and 7.31 and i obtained the same result every time.

The database-tables are created, the DB-connection is ok.
any ideas?
what happens on the 8/9 and 9/9 installation phases?
