Clean urls not working on Linux hosting

I have installed Drupal 7 on Linux hosted server (Shared Hosting). However, for some reason i am not able to enable clean urls. I have tried possible solutions that i have come across through out the drupal community, but no luck.

I keep getting an error saying "The clean urls test failed"

I have tried making the required changes in my .htaccess file as well.

"#
# Apache/PHP/Drupal settings:
#

# Protect files and directories from prying eyes.

Order allow,deny

which is best to host my website? Drupal or any other hosting?

i'll be making a new website for my blog, and want to know where to host my website ... ? What is difference in drupal and any other hosting? which is best and cheap for me while fully secure in same time ... :P any suggestion will be appreciated as i have no clue about.

Importing Drupal Gardens in D7

Issue #1

After exporting my site, I created a new database with Cpanel. The .sql in CPanel would not accept the underline in the name of the database and the name for user1. For example, Atlantis_Phoenix was the name of the database exported from Drupal Gardens. The new database would not accept that name because all the characters must be alphanumeric. The same thing occurred with 'user1_xxxxx."

I was able to use my name 'krsanna' and password exported from Drupal Gardens, because there was no '_' in them.

Regarding AMAZON EC2

Hi all, I have a doubt. I want to host my drupal site in AMAZON EC2 . My doubt is which linux version is better to use, Amazon's Ubuntu, Amazon Linux (This is the free micro server that amazon offers) , RedHat or any other linux version. So that my site will be more secure and can handle more user loads and data.

Thanks
