SiteGround Hosting v. Ubiquity Hosting

This is an emotional post.

***ADVANCED NOTICE: I am not a Ubiquity Hosting employee, I just do indeed love them this much***

I have developed two sites with Ubiquity Hosting, and one with SiteGround. Even though I was satisfied with Ubiquity the first time around, I wanted to see for my second site how some others would do. I first tried DreamHost, but given their MySQL servers are different from their regular ones, I quickly decided to opt for something else. This led me to SiteGround. Cheap! Great Drupal-friendliness!

Hosting co-op

I have been thinking about this for regular sites for a while, but it may make sense for Drupal websites. I manage a few Drupal sites, but we own the servers and space and I have never really had any issues like I am seeing here.

Maybe for a co-op organization and just share the cost of hosting, the more the less the cost. Obviously things like site size and bandwidth would have to be taken into account.

Does this sound like a doable idea?

Drupal Web Hosting Needs

Below are a summary for the Drupal web hosting needs according to my experience with it.

Just like looking for a web hosting solution for all the other type of web site, you will need to think about your needs on disk space, monthly transfer, and emailox, etc. And in below, we will discuss some key features are needed by a Drupal site.

1) Linux Platform with support for php, and MySQL or PostgreSQL. Drupal is an application developed by php, and run against MySQL or PostgreSQL. So, a support for php with database MySQL or PostgreSQL is the basic requirement for Drupal Hosting. And we would like to suggest a Linux web hosting package considering it is the perfect platform to run php and MySQL.

2) Easy to use Control Panel which will allow you to maintain Database, and conduct some routine maintenance tasks for your Drupal application

- An easy to use to tool to create MySQL or PostgreSQL database and grant the access.
- phpMyAdmin or phpPgAdmin to manipulate the data in the database, execute the backup or restore tasks to the data.
- An editor to modify the Cron job of the system. There are many tasks need to run regularly. A permission to change the Cron file will be very helpful for the Drupal webmasters
- Privilege to change the access permission of the file and directory.

New Hosting company

I am about to start work on my first drupal site. I have had some people recomend pair.com hosting, but wanted to see if anyone had any expirences with this company, good, bad or other.

Thanks.

Is Godaddy basic hosting any good?

Hello guys!

Is Godaddy hosting (the economy plan) any good to host my Drupal website?

I'm mostly concerned about page load times, which I've heard are usually caused by slow database access.

I will be using the normal caching mode and CSS compression. Should I be really concerned about this?

Has anyone experienced any problems with Godaddy hosting?

Thanks in advance,

Cristian
