I have some intermediate experience with Joomla and have recently been experimenting with Wordpress.
I know the site that I would like to create, but have yet to settle on the best method. I have stumbled across Drupal and am hoping it might fit my needs.
I downloaded Drupal and installed. Played around. Did some site configuration. Even added a couple of new modules. Changed the themes. So before I learn and invest in Drupal I though I would ask a few questions.
My Requirements
I am thinking of developing a website with lots of content. A major portion of the content pages for the site would be related -- more like a book and need reading from start to finish. Of course, some pages can be self standing articles. Also, the website would be a business domain specific one. I would need to have a separate database and pull data from it into the content pages. Of course, this means I need some customized form(s) integrated into Drupal as well.
Website would have major areas. For example, I have articles/books, forums, a functional area with lots of content customization and would need several built from scratch forms with several fields, another piece of website with some other custom application or open source eCommerce application. How do I present several parts of website as a well integrated whole website instead of bits of pieces that look and behave differently? Using sub-domains is one option. Is there a different approach?
