Before you start

Hey guys, here's what I'm trying to do:

I'm using Drupal basically as a inventory database and I have 2 content types: "Manufacturer" and "Products"

"Manufacturer" is basically a 1-field table that contains a mass list of hardware manufacturers. I have a page view so I can add/edit/delete these at any time.

The other content type is "Products", which has many fields, such as product name, description, price, etc.

I need to create a little icon users can click on to preview small .wav files. they are usually around 20kb large. So that they can listen b4 they download. If anybody knows what module or whatever the easiest way to do this is please let me know. I just want it simple next to each file a small icon to click and it will preview the sound.

I just want to know before I spend too much time learning Drupal.

The books I have seen seem to concentrate on using the tools but not on how to integrate existing php sites that are data centric. (Web Applications).

If this is not designed to manage those kind of sites it doesn't meet my needs. If it can manage web application sites perhaps someone can recommend a book to guide me in my quest.

Database configuration
Your web server does not appear to support any common database types. Check with your hosting provider to see if they offer any databases that Drupal supports.

I need to design a search engine for business listings. I basically need 3 pages: search engine, result display and listing display page. Now should I create a custom node for my listing display page say business listing or should I use CCK+Views. Now all my data is going to be pulled from a db. What is better?

I am trying to create an event website using Drupal. We will need the ability to sort events by state and type of event. The events will be submitted by users and a fee processed upon submitting an event. The users will need the ability to log into an account to update, change, delete, or add events.

Can this be done using drupal or is custom programming needed?
