Online Store with Drupal ? mySQL and MS SQL

Hy. I work with drupal for a couple of years now, but i am required to create new online shop and get live and publish some stock information about products from our internal management application which works with Microsoft SQL Server.

I only want to take data from that database, not change it. I prefer to work internally with mySQL in Drupal.

Any idea where to start looking?

Thank you

Using Drupal as a user-run Wiki with *heavy* customization?

Hi team,

I have a pretty good idea of what Drupal is and is not, but I was looking for some guru direction on whether or not I should be spending time looking at Drupal. I am wanting to use it as a user account management and presentation system, with the core "guts" or "logic" of this unique site written to the site's needs.

Where to start?

OK, I've decided to re-do my hand-coded PHP site in Drupal. One of the major reasons is that I want the forum and the store I need to add to play nice with each other and not forget the contents of the shopping cart should you pop over to the forum to look at something, etc., etc. The single signon for the whole site is also a plus. Anyway, I'm somewhat familiar with SMF (forum) and osCommerce (ecommerce) and would like to have something at least as capable as both, without having to heavily modify both standalone products to fully integrate them into the site (single signon, consistent appearance and behavior).

Let me give the overview in this post, and specifics for the forum and store in a couple more posts. I would appreciate feedback on what the best approach would be for doing what I want with the site. I'm experienced with HTML/CSS and PHP, but this is my first time in a CMS/CMF. There seems to be an embarrassment of riches in Drupal, after reading a "Teach Yourself" book and browsing the online handbooks — so much so that I'm not sure where to begin when confronted with a dazzling array of choices! I don't need specific instructions, but something more along the lines of "try the Transparent Bleem package to do function X", or "use panels to do such and such".
