how this works with php and html

Hello, I have downloaded drupel to test it out and have created some content using php. I have gotten it to connect to external MySQL servers and have been able to pull data to the content. Question, normally with php if I have other php files (such as ones that contain scripts to connect to databases, or global functions etc) is it possible to somehow get these files in the php code (e.g. require "db_con.php"). Also say I am submitting a form to a file from html (submit.php) how does this submit?

Advice on Themes/Modules for Town Comminity Website Setup.

First off I am brand new to this site, so may appear to be more than a bit clueless.

I am a bookseller, not a progrrammer, and I do have OSCommerce up and running, as well as Drupal and Wordpress tethered to my main site for general info and basiic interactive blogging.

So I am a *little* familiar with CMS (a totally different beast from a PHP database driven software ecommerce specific site. ).

What i need advice for is a world apart form what is on my booksite.

I am trying to set up an info and blogging site for community residents. One which will have news reports, essays, even small history books displayed online, in what in total ignorance of blogospeak i call 'sections'

I can prolly deal with those as stand alone elements, but it is critical that the community be able to add elements of their own, as well as comments directly readable under existing ones.

I tried something like thin on my Wordpress booksite blog, but it didnt like user replies under sections, and I had to hack it to get what I wanted, though it was totally inelegant.

I am hoping to avoid this with Drupal.

I would like all town members access, but final editiorial control.

Something like this has had to have been done hundreds of times before.

mamp

hi,
I want to install MAMP on a Mac os x10.5.8.
2 questions:
1) I've seen both opinions .... can anybody who's been through this tell me if I really need to use an older version (1.9.6 as opposed to 2.0)?
2) once the site is built, I intend to move it to a webhost (unix). Besides re-adjusting paths and database specs, will there be any issues stemming from the difference in platform (developed on Mac os x 10.5.8, published on Unix)?

Thank you

Installing Drupal in a sub-folder vs non-Drupal code in Drupal folder

Getting ready to use Drupal for the first time. I need to have some code that will be separate from the Drupal code. What is the best way to do this? Should I install Drupal in a sub-folder or place my code within the Drupal directory at the root?
