Drupal vs Framework

We have enjoyed our work as a Drupal Service Provider and have specialized in training our employees for the drupal projects and providing what the customer needs.

We all know that Drupal is a CMS, with very good flexibilities with its professionally maintained API and a module database maintained by a strong drupal developer community.

Properly ending HTML <link> tag

XHTML wants to end HTML tags properly.
But it looks like Drupal is not following this rule.

Current:
<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="/some.css">
<br>

Properly ending tags
<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="/some.css" />
<br />

I don't think it's terribly difficult to implement this.
Is there any reason for not ending tags properly?
Or is it happening to my installations only?
