Installing Drupal

I attempted to install Drupal 7.9 in a sub directory, and entered all the information needed. But, on completion the home page says: Page not found. The requested page "/my_sub_directory/" could not be found. I tried deleting all the files in the sub directory, and completely emptying the database, uploading the Drupal files again and running install.php. Same error: page not found. If I try immediately running install.php, it goes to the Configure Site section to create the admin account.

I try to install Drupal 7.8 on Appserv 2.5.10 but I found some error. After choose a languange, the cursor skip the verift requirements and jump to set up database without mysql database optionso I can't continue my installation. Why does it happens ?

I'm looking for a few weeks for a solution to set up my development environment:
I want to code on a local mamp server and looking for an easy and proved way to deploy a release. That involved a mysql db sync in some way and a deployment of the code changes ... the code changes I manage with git repo ... the question here is to put the howl installation into the repo or only a part that could change till dev

I try t install drupal like localhost/drupal/install.php but get the following error Deprecated: Function ereg() is deprecated in C:\xampp-win32-1.7.7-VC9\xampp\htdocs\drupal\includes\file.inc

I'm trying to install Drupal 7 on a webserver but i'm getting some warnings and it does not want to install.
On my local server (wampp) i got it running smooth just like it should.

How did i do it:
1 download it from drupal.org
2 copy the files
3 go to url
4 there is no 4 i'm stuck at the instalation
