Installing Drupal

I have installed Drupal to configure site and click on view your existing site it fails can I reinstall drupal

i rly tryed to found out that myself (like i did in every other thing, my page is nearly finished) but i just cant find a way to upload files in my drupal 7.8 ? i got the module files installed and activated:
Defines a file field type.
Requires: Field (enabled), Field SQL storage (enabled)
Required by: Image (enabled)

do i need any other modules? how and where can i upload files/pictures/otherstuff in my drupal?

later i will purchase a small server and host it from my residence....

I dont have any clue on how to do this from looking at posts and tutorials thus far.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

I am new to Drupal. I had downloaded and installed drupal 7.7 along with WAMP2
(following these instructions)
I was able to access the site yesterday. Now when I try to open my site in localhost I get the following error:
PDOException: SQLSTATE[28000] [1045] Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in lock_may_be_available() (line 164 of C:\wamp\www\site1\drupal-7.7\includes\lock.inc).
I googled a lot and couldn't find a working solution even though there were similar cases. The closest I could get was that maybe it had something to do with the Mysql password. But I am unable to access the mysql> terminal, the access being denied.
I also tried to restore my password. But for that, when I try to stop mysql as follows (as administrator):
>mysql stop
I get:
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'ODBC'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
I have checked the settings.php and config.inc.php and also remember the password clearly. But it isn't being accepted.
Accessing phpMyAdmin, I get:
MySQL said:
#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
Please help me troubleshoot the errors and get my site up and running (locally).

I tried moving my localhost to the web thrice, with each time the same result: interface is totally broken (no css applied) and many 'failed to open stream' errors. I have checked the 'files' permissions (writable), created a /tmp directory (writable), to no avail.
