Installing Drupal

I would like to install Drupal 6.22 on Xampp 1.7.4.

Xampp has been installed successfully but i am not able to complete the last step(13) as per below link.

I don't know how to attach image here hence below error come when i try to http://localhost/drupal

Notice: Undefined index: path in F:\xampp\htdocs\drupal\includes\database.mysql.inc on line 63

So, after going thru many topics on this forum, I still haven't found
what is a Xampp(localhost) + Laptop + Drupal configuration that works,
with the exception of buying a MacBook Pro.

What is your configuration ? Does it work fast on a localhost?

I have:
ApacheFriends XAMPP (Basispaket) version 1.7.1
Drupal 6.22
Toshiba Satellite laptop
- AMD processor with 2.00ghz
- 3GB of memory ram
- Windows Vista at 32bit

The configurations above works perfectly, but the localhost is slower than running on a commercial server.

I am watching a lynda video to help me install drupal. I am on the third module of Essential Training and it talks about exercise files that he has conveniently already on his desktop. What are these and how do I get them?

I am not a professional but I have had a little luck with a couple of my own websites.
I have recently experimented with an install with the commerce kick start profile. It installed right on, but as i was installing my logo and favicon in the appearance area I failed to get the desired results. The images I uploaded to my site, did upload. They are loaded to the /tmp directory, however they do not show up in the any manner. The default loco is missing as is as is the default favicon.

I want to create a customised D7 install.. I have looked at install profiles and to tell the truth they look to be a little beyond me.. The other option I was looking at was to create a shell script that can use drush to download and enable various modules that I want to be part of the standard install and hopefully update the variables to the way I want them..
