.pdf files and linking to them

I need to add .pdf files to my site and then provide a link for the public to download the files however, I don't know where these files go when uploaded and what link to provide when creating the webpage where the .pdf link will be. Help....
I inherited this website so I don't know how the previous designer did this.

Thank you,
Michele G.

Dedicated Hosting in data centre

Hi,
We are developing a government site in drupal and it will be heavy traffic site. Its having mainly drupal's contributed modules like workbench, views , webforms etc. we are going to host this site in dedicated server in data centre.
we are using drupal 7 with PostgreSQL 9 and having seven dedicated RH linux 6 server. Our plan is Apache in active/active mode clustering and Postgresql database in Active/Passive mode clustering.
So can anybody help us how to deploy it. and also what are the consideration for caching for high performance.
Thanks in advance.

RackspaceCloud 256M + Barracuda

Every few years it seems I hit some resource limit at my hosting service. I've tried many, both shared hosting & VPSs. For the past several years I've been using hotdrupal.com and I have to say their support and the performance of Drupal for my sites (which are a little complex, but not demanding for bandwidth. I've actually been really pleased with hotdrupal.com, but the Cloud and Nginx and drush and such beckon. So I've been looking for alternatives.

Currently I'm testing a RackspaceCloud server. I'd like to stick with a small one ($11/mon for 256M is very hard to beat), but I really like the idea that should traffic pick up I can just click a button and I get all the RAM I can use.

The downside of VPSs, for me, is all that detailed configuration & optimization stuff. Then upgrades come along, and you do a bunch of it all over again. But I've finally taken the plunge and tried Barracuda. Astonishing. Amazing.

Transfer of my drupal website from localhost to a live server

I am trying to transfer my drupal website from the local server to a live server.

So, I transfered the drupal software from local to the remote server. Afterwards I created a database in the remote server and
I imported the database from local. Finally I changed the file settings.php putting the correct database name, user ,password and
server name.

The home page is fine in my live server; BUT I CAN´T LOG IN AS ADMINISTRATOR WITH THE LOGIN USERNAME AND PASSWORD
AND THE LINKS ARE BROKEN.

WHAT IS THE MATTER?

Many thanks

Dedicated Server Hangs - Migration Problem

Hi,

I am upgrading my hosting to Dedicated server(presently on Shared Linux Hosting - Godaddy).

I purchased a dedicated server(Godaddy) with following configuration:
Operating System: CentOS 5
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo - 2.66 GHz
RAM: 4 GB

I don't know much about server and to set its configuration(my.cnf, php.ini, etc).

I successfully migrated data and MySql to new server. Everything was fine. Only last error remaining was:
HTTP request status Fails

Then, I installed a module: "Http Request Fail Reset" from http://drupal.org/project/http_request_fail_reset and I set reset at every 1 minute in settings.

I don't know what happened wrong (may be culprit was: Http Request Fail Rest module, but I am not sure), my server hangs. Server support chat team said: there are so many MySql connections (approx 1200+), 90 Apache instances(as I remember..), etc. I can't access my website, SSH, Plesk and FTP, everything was so much slow. Then, I requested to support team to reboot the server and before my server get busy, I deleted my website's root folder and database. Now my server was properly breathing.

I want to mention at above scenario, my website domain DNS was pointing to dedicated server, normal traffic was 150(according to Google Analytic real time report) and domain DNS was pointing to the server from last 12 hours.

Apache file permissions

Please excuse what may be a stupid question...

When I upload a file Drupal first puts it in the files/tmp folder. My server sets this file's User and Group to Apache. It also sets the permissions to rw-rw-r--. This causes havoc with the media module and any attempts to upload a module update.

Does anyone else run into this problem?
