Recommendations for best practices for a new hosting provider sought

We have recently co-located our service with EasySpeedy. We wanted a hosting environment which met our needs and desires and in the process we have capacity we would like to share with others on an equitable basis.

  • more than adequate bandwidth. We found bringing a fast connection in to our facilities was much more expensive than locating in a data center with good bandwidth.
  • more than adequate hardware. EasySpeedy's ES3020 qualifies.
  • operating system of our choice. We use Ubuntu on our desktops and in-house servers. The latest versions of PHP and MySQL were critical to our sense of security
  • emphasis on web serving. To that end we run no MTAs, no mailing lists, just the services required by current PHP practice. Outgoing email to a smart host via esmtp.
  • restricted shell. Most of us are addicted to shell access; some of us are aware of the risk of sharing a system with unlimited shell. We run with shell disabled except for brief periods when necessary.
  • safe PHP. Vulnerable functions will be disabled.
  • email support. Tech support queue is monitored by a small staff which normally responds within minutes and always within 24 hours. Server facing support is free, account/site support is at current NRC rate ($1/min).
  • flash animation won't move on page

I have loaded a flash animation and when I put in the HTML code I only see a white box and the image isn't moving. This is what I got from tech support.

My file name is apcanter4.swf 250X155 it's suppose to be a trotting horse.

New to Drupal and can use advice

Currently I have several websites utilizing Frontpage. I want to create a community website utilizing Drupal. Can anyone suggest the best hosting site for a Drupal novice? Do I have to download Drupal, create the site, then upload to the hosting service, or does the service provide templates?
If you want to email me it's justmorgans2000@yahoo.com
    Thanking you in advance.

Looking for Windows server hosting companies

I posted an earlier entry but the subject was a bit misleading so here it is again:

We were looking to move over to MediaTemple's dedicated virtual server setup. However, one aspect of our site (FlashPaper) will require Windows hosting (we're using FlashPaper to automatically convert PDFs to FlashPaper format a-la scribd.com). Does anyone have any suggestions for:
a- comparative (price and service) hosting companies running Windows
b- a solution that will allow me to run Drupal on MT and FlashPaper on a remote Windows server?

    thanks in advance

    LxAdmin hosting experience?

I'm shopping for a new VSP and I'm seeing some interesting options these days. Relative newcomer in hosting control panels is LxAdmin (they have a live demo at http://lxlabs.com/). Their big selling point is a quite small memory footprint, based on the Lighttpd server. They also offer one of those auto-installs for Drupal, so I'm assuming it works fairly well.

The low memory footprint is attractive for Drupal on VPS. There's more than a few hosting companies offering LxAdmin. Each of these look interesting:
