I was wondering whether anyone could recommend a free hosting company that supports Drupal. I'm going to create a small internet site & i can't imagine it taking up more than 200Mb (absolute tops), & won't be needing much bandwidth to begin with.
My colleague has a Dreamhost acct so i might be able to set it up on that, but i'd prefer to get my own hosting plan.
Suggestions? Or all free hosts capable of hosting Drupal likely to be more hassle than they are worth?
thanks!
tom
But what I don't understand is how do I do this on my Webhost. I don't recall having priviligeus using CLI commands for my domain. And I'm not even sure that they're using Ubuntu Server. I only know they use the latest PHP and MySQL.
I'm currently hosted with Dreamhost. Their service is fine, support is fine, Drupal has all resources it needs to run there. I am, however, getting a little pissed off about their frequent downtime.
I'm thinking of buying an alternative web hosting. Take a look on my situation... I run some Drupal sites (six by now, probably increasing to twenty) for very very small companies, so that most of these sites are very very small and have almost no traffic at all. I am not a resource-eater, but I do need to host many domains, many email accounts.
Is there a directory of web hosts (preferably a non-commercial one, ie. without ads and paid reviews/placement) that lists which web hosts support PHP 5 by default, which do not support it, and which make it possible to use PHP 5 on your site (and how many hoops you have to jump through)? If none exists yet, would this forum or the handbook be a good place for something like this? If yes, would it make sense to endorse it with a link somewhere on drupal.org?
netfirms is my webhost and i've been trying to install drupal 5 in itwithout success.. i tried the step-by step given in the forum but it doesnt work, cos the instructions are for drupal4. for instance they make references to a folder named database which exists in drupal 4 and not 5... has someone installed drupal 5 in netfirms..let me know.. thanks.
