I recently noticed that siteground.com is disabling the update_status module from my drupal installation I run on their hosting servers.
This is what they reply when you ask for clarification:
...The issue you experienced ['white page'] is caused by the update module for Drupal. Here is what happens when you try to access the admin backend.
1. The Update module tries to connect to all web sites listed as update locations for your installed modules and the Drupal installation itself.
2. It is common that one or more of those web sites are not accessible at that point (or are replying too slow). Most commonly it is an issue with third party scripts.
3. The Update modules tries to retrieve the information and since it does not succeed in more than 10 seconds - the scripts times out - a blank page is displayed.
The resolution for our shared hosting servers is to disabled the Update module so your Drupal administrator backend will load without any troubles. If we do not disable the script and its execution takes more than 10 seconds the page will result as blank page at your back end.
In case you need this module you should consider upgrading your account to a dedicated solution ...

I have developed my website locally using WAMP on windows vista, and drupal 6.12, I have also used some modules like webforms ,CCK and views for developent. Can some body tell me if I will also need to have all of the above(WAMP, Drupal, 6.12, drupal modules) installed on the Hosting server?
A friend of mine is ready to host my site on his server, which doesnt have WAMP or Drupal installed. He has MySql, Apache, PHP available on his server . Can I host my site on his hosting server?
Hi. I am having problem with the .htaccess file. This file is use for search engine friendly url. I am hosting my site with GoDaddy.com, Deluxe hosting plan. The links on my site does not work. Can you help me figure out what is the problem? Thank you
