Optimization to handle several hundred concurrent session

Hi,

I want an article that explains the parameters / specifications / guidelines for handling thousands of concurrent sessions using Drupal 6.

My requirement is to conduct online exam, so this requires optimization at at-least two levels:
1. The Infrastructure - Dedicated Server(s) with load balancing.
2. Writing optimized code (Drupal Modules).

For point 1, it would be great if a hosting company offers such load balancing packages, I had a word with HostGator guys, unfortunately they do not offer such service.

Drupal & Plesk v10 - open_basedir restriction in effect.

Everything was working a treat until I upgraded to Plesk v10 last week. The Drupal installation (v6.19) is up to date with no outstanding patches. Yet when the user log's in and goes to edit a page they get;

warning: is_dir() [function.is-dir]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/tmp) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/[edit]/httpdocs/:/tmp/) in /var/www/vhosts/[edit]/httpdocs/includes/file.inc on line 102.

**note I have edited the path's above to remove the client details

Anyone know of shared hosting service that offers up to 125mb of php_ini memory?

I came accross this site called TMDHosting. See the chat I had with them below. I am looking for a drupal host that will allow or offer 96mb PHP memory or 125mb. However I am not looking for a dedicated server. I am looking for shared hosting that will also allow me to host and stream one or more introductory videos for services.

Inherited a forum--now what

Long story short. A club I belong too has a website/forum, the guy in charge of it can no longer. I have been given the job of taking over it. I don't really know where to start. About all I know is that it is version 5.x-1.0-alpha2. Will he be able to just give me admin. access and I start handling site preferences or do I need to install something on my end. We have our domain name paid for for a couple years, but I'm not sure who's hosting it? Pretty much I'm an idiot!
