MAMP- Use local IP instead of 'localhost' in address?

Im running MAMP on my computer, is it possible to change the url text from 'localhost' to my local IP? If I enter the IP instead of localhost it works, so I just need to stop MAMP rewriting this.

The reason I need this is for testing on different browsers. I have old versions of IE on some spare computers and Im connecting to my localhost over my local network. If I type in my local IP address I can get the site. However the problem is that im using pathlogic, which creates absolute urls.

Anyone tried hosting with Amazon?

They now offer MySQL support, but I don't know if the whole Drupal setup can be done there or if it would be any good. Anyone tried this?

Benchmarking the hosting providers

Hi All

Just a thought here....what about setting a benchmark for the hosting providers?

Install a vanilla Drupal 7,
Don't add any themes or modules.
Don't enable any cacheing
Don't modify any php / mysql / apache settings

Click module and time it

We can then post results to compare the speeds.

If anyone is interested, I'll do this tomorrow night on hostgator.

using Mysql under Windows

I wanted to prepare a local hosting on my own PC running Windows XP. I succeeded installing Apache,PHP is working. SQL seems not to work although the service is running (MySQL server 5.5). When I want to start with the setup of Drupal in the browser window the process stops on the check for requirements. It says the database support is disabled and the web server does not support PDO database extensions. I tryed to follow the suggestions about this without success.

Newbie Transferring Local Website to Web Server that supports drupal

Hi,

I am a newbie. I have setup a basic working site locally on my Ubuntu 10.10. Locally the website is as I expect it to be.

But I need step by step instructions on how to transfer this to my webserver that supports drupal. Can someone please point me to such documentation. I see that there are loads of things like export database, modify database, export database, dump database that are being used that I do not know.

Though I have good knowledge of HTML, I dont know how and which files to transfer from drupal to webserver drupal folder.

Managed Cloud - 1and1 ?

I have been using ServInt VPS and they have great support. I am not a system administrator and they always help. Support varies with VPS providers, many claim to be managed.

The problem is I often exceed system resources for the VPS when importing a lot of data. ServInt does not have a cloud option, and increasing will cost a couple hundred per month.
