Setting up multi-language menu is really tedious for many languages and pages. Alternatives?

Hello there!

The company I work for has been tasked with creating a Drupal-based website (5.x) for a multi-national company. The main requirement of what is otherwise a fairly basic site is that it must provide content in 12 (and growing) languages. To start with all the content will be written and professionally translated up front but in the future the site will be administered by several global offices (i.e. admins with different native languages). The plan is to create one site with Drupal 5.x and use the Locale and Internationalization (i18n) modules to manage translations. Although tedious we are quite happy with creating the content and copying in the translations for each of our languages setup via Locale. The problem comes with setting up the website menus.

translate non standard t string in node.tpl.php

I have some t strings in my node tpl files, such as:

<?php print t('Words that need translating') ?>

My Question is this - can I generate a po file for my theme? If so, how?

I have seen refrences to an "extractor.php" file, but where to obtain this and how to use it?

I did download the template extractor module, but that only works for modules, not for theme template files.

Any direction or advice most welcome!

Two part question: a) Importing fuzzy strings from PO file b) Usage of export.php script

Hi all,

a) When it comes down to update few lines I use poEdit. Naturally, as I used autotranslate option, and I got bunch of fuzzies. I've correct few lines, import into Drupal and all fuzzies are imported as "translated" lines. Any solution on this problem?

b) I'm not exactly sure how to use export.php script to export ALL strings from installed Drupal. Currently, I firstly import old PO into latest 5.2., and then I export it again. Then I have a PO file updated with latest string and everything is OK. No bother with one file, but clumsy for all.

How to create a working textgroup? Possible locale bug?

I'm trying to create a seperate textgroup for a group of modules to be able to manage translations better.

I've created hook_locale as follows:

How to translate the values in CCK custom (select/checkbox) fields

For example, when we add to a content type a custom select-list-field "Gender" which consists of two values to choose from: "Male" and "Female". How can we make these two values translatable when entering the translation page of any node created based on that content type?

Same question to check-box-field.

Thanks in advance!
