Theme development

I want to convert my frontpage to 2 columns content as follows at the picture below.

May I do this via CSS? Or How can I perform this?

I'm new to Drupal.

I've downloaded a stylesheet \sites\default\themes\sparkles\css\all-in-one.css edited a background colour, uploaded the stylesheet again, and the theme broke???

All text styling was lost, banner height was lost, all float styling was lost?

Any suggestions?

Hi,
I would like to add two blocks above Drupal 7 node comment. Those would be Similar Node and Advertisement( which I have already created). However I could not figure out how to add them above node comment. Can anyone please tell me? I don't have much expertise editing drupal code.

Strange CSS after Aggregate and compress .... looks like:

On my theme i have a few pages that get a special banner. This is a static banner so I programatically added it to my theme like this:

I'm trying to add a new theme and always appears the message Warning: Content-Length POST of 8707912 bytes exceeds the limit of 8388608 bytes in Unknown on line 0 someone help me? thank you
