Upgrading Drupal

I've been using SMF Simple Machines since 2004 and after 4+ years since the "first contact" SMF still amazes me with it's upgrading system. Everything happens from inside it's administration panel, you don't download and you don't ftp anything to the server. Tests are being run to prevent prossible errors (doesn't happen often) and in a matter of 5 clicks you are ready.

This works for the core system (SMF) and for all the addons!

Well, I just updated my site from 6.8 to 6.9. However, I am unable to upload images etc. as the status report says that the file system is not writable, even with 775 permission. If I set 777, it is ok, but I am reluctant to set 777.

I use Drupal 6.9. After the update of kaltura 6.x-1.3 on kaltura 6.x-1.4 the following error message arises:
warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, 'access_allow_all' was given in ........./includes/menu.inc on line 452.
What can one do to avoid the error message?

After/during upgrading 6.8 to 6.9: It gives the option to "remove orphaned actions", but maybe I'm making things worse instead of better and do I need 'that something' after I've checked my modules back on? Like I don't want to loose my group and/or group data.

I'm having trouble running the update.php. This happens in Drupal 6.8. I'm getting to the update stage, I'm getting the progress bar, but nothing happens. Using Firefox with Firebug I got the following error "Access to restricted URI denied" code: "1012" in jquery.js?j (line 13). The code presented in the console is "eval(function(p,a,c,k,e,r){e=function(c)...r|serialize|pixelLeft'.split('|'),0,{}))".

Trying to do it in Safari fails, too.

Any ideas?

I an using Drupal 6.6 and it is working great. Of course I would like to upgrade to 6.9 ASAP. However, reading all the posts that people are having with the upgrades, I am SCARED!!
Also I read the instructions for the upgrade and it's not straightforward, there are so many steps!! and if one of them goes wrong the whole site might fail.
I initially loaded Drupal by Fantastico from within cPanel. But they don't have 6.9 upgrade yet and since I moved it from the test folder to the root, Fantastico is not finding it anymore!
