This forum is for questions about upgrading an existing Drupal site. Don't forget to read the UPGRADE.txt file that comes with every Drupal download.

I'm I doing it right?

I am designing a new websit, I have been working with drupal 5.x but need to up-grade to 6.x. I tried to download it. This is what I did... I saved it to my deck top, went to c-panel on my site, click on file manger, then drupal 5.x, open up my brower to up-load 6.x to drupal file and it did not work. no change. no banbanas... Am I doing it right!

Unrecoverable error upgrading 6.4 to 6.9 - Tried everything I can think off

Like others I have hunted up and down looking for clues as to why my upgrade failed with an unrecoverable error when running update.php.

Basically, the update.php shows the html code of update.php and clicking to the error page takes it back to the update.php page.

I want to upgrade from 6.4 to 6.9.
I read and executed the steps necessary. Take site offline, change theme to Garland, disable all contributed or custom modules.

IS THERE A WAY TO APPLY THIS UPGRADES MANUALLY. The site talks about it but can't find explanation on it.

I tried to look at the query logs ... There are lots of SQL statements there. Basically the last one updates the session table.

I started to trace the update.php code. I might still resume on it to see if it will help.

I was however able to upgrade a 6.4 VANILLA install to a 6.9 VANILLA install. This would lead me to believe it is a contributed module. I thought disabling them in a previous steps, allows upgrade to work on CORE only. But the sql statments show that there updates related to the contributed modules happening also.

I am using FRONTPAGE, DEVEL, Google Analytics, Meta Tags, Robots, SwitchTheme, tinymce, Webform, Captcha, Captcha pack, XML sitemap as contributed modules ... though they were disabled during the upgrade.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INPUT?

Upgrading -- What I did that made learning/doing so much easier..

Greetings...

My browsing of these forums reveals to me how many others are like me -- wading through information to "do it" and then becoming mired in muck, flailing helplessly, hoping someone has the magic text to solve our problem. I've been dreading updating to 6.9 out of fear that something would break and I would spend my work time fiddling and twiddling rather than moving ahead. Today, I thought I would check out lynda.com which I subscribed to several months ago for training on another program. I'm usually good at figuring things out for myself but found that that the series of videos oftentimes give me tricks I didn't discover intuitively. I went to lynda.com today to see if, perchance, the site had tutorials for Drupal. Voila! Yahoo. Yes!

So, I opened the upgrade.txt in the main directory of my local drupal install and concurrently, I viewed the video on updating. It's really a good video, at least imho. Reading and listening/watching...I went through the process step-by-step. I think it helps to have audio/visuals as well as reading. Many of us learn using different modalities -- at least that's what I've learned from years of university-level teaching myself.

At this writing, I just finished updating Drupal core as well as several modules.

Not one single hiccup. Life is wonderful. :-)

e-Commerce 6.x-4.0-beta4 to e-Commerce 6.x-4.0-beta5

Hello,

I want to update e-Commerce 6.x-4.0-beta4 to e-Commerce 6.x-4.0-beta5
Normally this would not be a problem, but the readme is unreadable for me since I a, dyslectic.
If anyone could provide me with the basic instructions, I assume everything will succeed.

Thanks in advance
