Drupalcafe - Wordpress vs Drupal

Drupal versus Wordpress is the theme for the Drupalcafé of July 11th, 2013. The market share of the open source content management system Wordpress is and remains much larger than Drupal market share and continues to grow. What drives so many to choose Wordpress and what drives others to choose Drupal? Is one better than the other? And which CMS is best for which need? We'll look forward to a nice discussion on this topic. Will you join us?

Drupalcafé is an open meeting forum, for- and by web enthusiasts. Drupalcafé features presentations, open discussions and inspiring demonstrations. Would I be able to do this with Drupal?

My friend and I have an idea for a web business and we need some framework for the website. We both have some design experience but very little back-end experience.

Without saying too much our website would need a way for users to register and upon registration be able to create their own homepage/single-page website that would give out some basic info, but it needs to be customizable in how it looks and what information they put on there.

Any ideas if I can do this with drupal and maybe where to start?

D8 w/ node.js for mobile backend?

Hello all. I am a total newbie to Drupal so forgive my ignorance. I was looking for a mobile backend suite for my iOS app like (Appcelerator Cloud Services, Parse etc.) and I came into Drupal as a possible solution. I would be much more eager to use a CMS as a backend since I have a strong Joomla background and know the potential of good old fashioned CMS. I am aware that d7 has already the Services module. However I need to be able to support large amounts of concurrent users and traffic.

Silly long strings of classes

I'm working with some freelance developers who have been long term Drupal coders. My background is in front end web design and when i look through the presented code I'm astounded at how almost every element has a long string of classes. Looking at whats been don't you could have written the CSS directly in as a style= without affecting code bloat.

I ask why this is and they explained its down to Drupal's framework however i cant believe the open source community would let this happen.

Is this possible in drupal?

Hi,

Just wondered if a site like the following is possible in drupal? with the click and auto scroll to the place on the page.
