Drupal Multisite setup using .htaccess

I am trying to install drupal multi site installation.

I have installed drupal in /home/user/public_html/drupal. I am able to go to the index page using "www.domainname1.com/drupal". What can I do to make it access using "www.domain1.com"? I know how to do this using vhost entries (http://drupal.org/node/169034). But bluehost does not allow access for httpd.conf file or any other vhost related files.

Child Forums

I am thinking about converting my SMF forum to Drupal. (I actually just did it, SMF-VB-Drupal and it worked decently) I have many many subforums under the main forums. Currently drupal displays ALL the forums on the main index. I need a way to have the subforums be limited to a link on the main index, or even hidden completely. Currently the main index is way too large.

What is the best way to accomplish this, or is it even possible?

Is Drupal right for me??

Hey guys, wondering if ya could help me out. Im looking to do a site and was wondering if Drupal would fit the bill. Im looking to do a site with a main community page for articles, picture gallery, forum(preferably phpBB, and even better if I can use a pre-existing phpBB forum) and eventually video. Off of this main page I would also like a page linking to users(or groups of users) pages that are created within this site as well. I would like the user/groups to be able to create these pages on their own - preferably have it easy for them to setup and even change themes/site layout/colors.

Restrictong new registerations

I have been administering a forum based on phpBB for quite sometime. Now, I feel to change to a CMS. The most important feature, for me, is to restrict unwanted user registrations. Can I do it with Drupal, if yes, by inversting how much effort?

Setting up DB with multiple domains Drupal 5.5

I'm really strugling with -$db_prefix = '';- I have found a node http://drupal.org/node/86589- which gives a hint in how doing it. This is the first instruction-
open the mysql file that you are going to use in an editor. I went to- phpMyAdmin- and i can't find anything that gives me the structure indicated in the node. Any node that explain how to do that? Thanks

Suitability for Community Site .. Help Desperately Required!

I want to build a small "specialised" community web site, but must have the following key
components.

  • Personal messaging within the site between users
    • A user has their own profile (customisable within a framework)
    • Accessible via their own unique URL (erm, closest thing I can think of is myspace, with www.myspace.com/{user}
A user has their own mini gallery (20 images) specifically for them
    • Possibly purchase additional galleries? ie. levels of membership get more galleries
  • A user has a personal blog system that is can be made private or public
  • A user has their own private contact management system
  • A user has their own Diary system, linked to contact management system, where items are either private or public.
  • Aside from those requirements, the usual news, contributions, blogs, forums etc would also be required.

I was told by a friend that Drupal was the way forward, however, I have visited, I am here, I am LOST!!!

Could someone please, please start pointing me in the right direction of what I need for base install, modules
that need to be installed and how I can go about customising a theme to make it all look pretty. Or indeed
point me at relevant reading material.
