Before you start

What I am wanting to do is to create many photo albums of which will host all of my photos that I have taken over the years. I am having trouble creating one of these that displays my photos well and I am fairly new at drupal and dont quite understand it fully. Can anyone help me with this?

I am new to the Drupal community and have been loving it so far. Everyone's very helpful and there are some inspiring ideas coming out of this place!

I had an idea for a site where users could review different products. I was wondering if anyone could suggest some modules to use for the following concepts...

- a product/catalogue system with categories. for example - Electronics > Game Consoles > Playstation 3
I have looked into Views as well as using Taxonomy for this, am I on the right track?

I currently have a WordPress based blog for our family. I like WordPress quite a bit, however, the one area I find it extremely lacking is in content restriction. Though there are some plug-ins for WordPress that assist in this area, many are prone to break when WordPress changes or updates versions. Because this sort of functionality is not part of the "core" of WordPress I have been considering Drupal.

I am a civil engineer considering Drupal to build (from scratch) a website managing a construction materials catalog website. But before I do, I want to acquire the minimum skills. The question then is; what are the minimum skills before proceeding with the Drupal way?

html - beginner? intermediate? advanced?
css - beginner? intermediate? advanced?
php - beginner? intermediate? advanced?
