modules to build a Wiki dictionary-like website ?

Hi everyone,

Although I've registered my account for some years I've often hestitated using drupal. It looked quite difficult to me. However, recently I want to build up a dictionary-like site with user generated contents for a specific purpose, I've been told by a few guys that Drupal is my best bet and worth learning to use it.

Could anyone recommend some modules that should be used at building up dictionary-like website? The
long list of modules makes me feel puzzled.

Restrict Ability to Publish Nodes/Node Approval

I'm considering setting up a Drupal site for a Boy Scouts of America Order of the Arrow lodge, but there is one issue I foresee that I was wondering if there was a solution to. The way our current site works, users can go in and edit content, but the changes are then "unapproved" until they are approved by a staff member. Note that there is currently no automated approval method: it is simply the staff member telling the webmaster that the content is able to go live and is transferred/published to the live site.

I've set up/configured several Drupal sites before, so I know the numerous advantages to using it over other systems (and anything is an improvement over the current system). What I'm looking to see here is a way for users with a certain permission similar if not identical to "edit any page content" but that does not allow them to set the status to "Published". Similarly, I would need a way to have a role that can go in and publish those changes. The key is that it won't necessarily be new pages being made, but edits to the current ones that would revert the status to unpublished. But meanwhile, the current published (approved) version of the page would remain active (as obviously it would not be very productive to "eliminate" pages from the site while waiting for edits to be approved).

Is Drupal (factory made and no programming) abble to do this

Hello.
I received a request from one of my customer to make 2 projects for him. I am a Joomla user but i have to say that i want to switch to something more powerful.
Yesterday i spent a few hours reading and admiring Drupal documentations and showcase. It's seems astonishing. For a person like me with PHP knowledge at the level of echo('hello word'); Drupal seems to be the perfect choice for applications that doesn't fit with Joomla.

Drupal for community "places" website?

Hi,

I'm looking to setup a web page where community can add "places" like restaurants to a searchable site. You can vote on quality of places. It should have search function by categories (like restaurant & city or cinema & region) and not only full text.

Is that anything Drupal would be support more or less straight forward? Are there modules available?

Any advice is appreciated
Lars
