Still on Drupal 7? Security support for Drupal 7 ended on 5 January 2025. Please visit our Drupal 7 End of Life resources page to review all of your options.
Our company (well, technically, a charity) is going to upgrade his website. So far we identify two candidates:
WordPress 3.x+Prestashop. WordPress for the corporate side, Prestashop for the e-Commerce side. We have people mildly proficient (i.e.: no coding) for the two parts.
Drupal Commerce (Drupal 7-based). The natural evolution of Ubercart (one of the two leading e-commerce module for Drupal), it is still in beta. We are planning deployment by the end of the year.
One may say betting on beta software (Drupal Commerce) is not a good idea.
One may also say that WordPress is not a powerful enough CMS for e-commerce site (and that is why we are planning Prestashop) but technological history taught me that a widely-implemented less-than-perfect solution wins over a reputable but less-implemented solution (think Flash RAM vs other initially more powerful solid state memories). WordPress may be weaker, but its rate of adoption means it is getting better faster than Drupal (IMHO), even though the latter is supposed to be better. Alright, one may say that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, but still...
My company is currently looking towards CMS options for grant websites that we create. We were looking at Liferay initially but since it's in Java there's kind of a large learning curve and since we have 3 PHP developers here Drupal seems like a viable option. One thing that my boss is concerned with is load balancing between multiple servers with Drupal. Is this easy to do and are there any good articles on how to do this or testimonials from large companies that implement a multiserver setup that requires load balancing?
The site I'm designing will be multimedia heavy, most of which will be contributed by the general public. Each photo, video, etc will need to be tagged by the contributor with a variety of "custom" tags and in many cases these custom tags will fall into different categories. We will then display these images on specific pages based on how each photo is tagged. i..e page X will show all photos tagged with "ABC" in category 1 and will be grouped together based on tag values in category 2.
I’m looking for a questionnaire entity or at least a starting point on what I can do to get up and running
http://drupal.org/project/qfield
looked interesting but there isn’t a port to D7 – when Questions could be easily added by end users
Im going to need a survey where 50 questions need to be answered – Ive look at Webforms and Survey modules which are too general for what I need to do and I need more control on how the data is created and outputted
I'm looking for some advice while just starting with Drupal. What is the simplest solution possible to implement an *extremely simple* online shop? I don't need user accounts, wishlists, events or any other fancy features. My page will only have a few items for sale, around 20.
I only need that people can fill a "basket" and check out. Would be good if people could pay after checking out via Credit Card or PayPal.
