Other directories

My site will be a huge site. Many sections and pages per section.

Where do I put directories for images. I also will have to build a module to handle ads. these ads will need to be in another directory, as well as my other php classes that PHP outside of Drupal will be in.

How are theses placed and structured so that they are not overwritten on future updates?

Customer files module recommendation

I moving webhosts and want to set up the new site with Drupal. Right now I have a simple php app that I use to distribute files to my customers. Currently each customer logs in with there own username and pass, and are shown a directory listing of their files, arranged in sub folders by date.

I am looking for recommendations on Drupal modules that can accomplish the same things. If it comes with other features, such as splash pages and such that is fine, but most importantly is to be able to securely distribute files for clients to download.

Is drupal and modules capable of this?

Hello everyone. I'm planning on building / paying for a site which has the ability to allow users to list and sell products online (think eBay concept but not as massive), where my site will take a commission of sales. These sellers will have their own online shop page within my site but their products are also available by search and click down categories amongst everyone else's similar product. users (sellers) will need an easy interface to add product pictures and information, and I need full flexibility in creating the sellers experience (I hope that makes sense), e.g I want to define what they see and what options they have when creating their shop and product information.

I need the search engine to categorise and determine which listings are closest to the shopper by postcode / address, and I would like to be able to determine other variables which the engine should class as best match.

These are the core requirements for the idea I'm working on, please tell me if drupal and existing modules are capable of this with full flexibility on the user experience Which i can create. ?? If it's possible, please recommend which modules I should look at.

I will later add forum / community into the site and product / store ratings but I already know drupal is capable of this without having to further develop a module.

Newbie - Is this possible?

Hello, everybody!

I have a question or two regarding possibilities of making a website using Drupal. Now, I'll be quite exact at what I need, since I am looking for a CMS solution / choice to use in all future projects (tried Wordpress and Joomla, but I don't like them), so I'm adding a picture of website also (here: http://goo.gl/OmnC1)

I'm building a simple website with simple layout:
Number 1 possiblity:
Header, two columns below header (menu on left, content on right) and a footer.

Number 2 possibility:
Header, Banner below it, two columns below banner, footer.

So here's question #1: is there a Banner module for Drupal - by banner I mean something like this here: , a simple flash or whatever banner that can be easily updated with new events, with possiblity of using arrows to slide upcoming events to left or right.

Question #2: Content and banner should be edited easily enough thru CMS - my friend is not really familiar with all these interwebz, so it should be done without code fiddling.

Question #3: I have Drupal 6.1...I dunno if the domain / server provider can upgrade it, but you can answer everything as he can upgrade.

Migrating to Drupal - best install strategy

I'm going to install a fresh drupal install on the working server with a live site at root (non-drupal).

What it the better way to install drupal: at subdomain or just in a folder?

Which place is easier to move to root from?

Drupal as a first CMS, and if it can do the task i want?

Hey all!

I just started learning how to develop and design websites and i am making my first very own personal website. It isn't going to be anything fancy, just basically a home page, a blog, a page for projects i am working on or have completed(i like to do physics/comp sci/Electrical engineering stuff as a hobby), an about me page, and a contact page.

After doing some research i think its best for my blog to be controlled by a CMS because i don't want to have to hard-code an html page and manually link them together for each blog post

I want to do something along the lines of where all the blog posts and project posts are controlled by a CMS and they can link to each other chronologically (so you can click on a "previous" or "next" button on any blog post and it will bring you backwards or forwards chronologically. And i want something like the most recent project and most recent blog post are on my homepage and updated whenever i post something new.

Is this the kind of thing that a CMS would generally be used for? I have been lookijng around and i saw that the three biggies were Drupal, Joomla, and Wordpress. I did some research on each and it seems that wordpress is for the non-techy people who just want a webpage, joomla is for designers and drupal is more geared towards developers.
