Before you start

I'm not sure I'm posting in the right part of the forum, but I thought "General Discussion" was a good place to start. I'm not asking for support here, just that you throw some ideas and/or advice at me, given the following parameters:

- I work in a 350-employee, Europe-based company whose name will remain a secret, for now;

- We use a ticketing and database system based on the .Net framework that's at least six years old, and isn't scalable nor upgradable, for various reasons;

I have built a highly customizable site in PostNuke and my first impression of drupal is there are some similarities. I am building a new site and before I get started I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to configure drupal to have the below behavior. I know I will have to do a lot of coding, which is ok, the main thing is knowing the best way to start out to avoid more work later. The site is for an int'l organization that accomplishes work through working groups, and which organizes events and produces papers. Here are the design details:

I want to create a website of news, with a responsive design.

I try with OpenPublish distro, but don't work correctly after the installation. Some errores after update.php etc. etc. :(

I'm very interested to the aspect of the "timeline"

Any suggestions for themes? modules? etc. for start.

Please take a second to look at how that site works and steer me in the right direction. I was also looking at the Dolphin Software as a possible alternative.

Wonder if anyone can advise me on this - we need a website for our business, which is personalisation and engraving. We need a facility for customers to be able to both add text and upload images to a variety of products (tho not on all products). I have tried some other opensource platforms and either what they had wasn't suitable or their support was almost non-existent.
