How hard is it to setup such a site

Hello,
I'm considering to adopt Joomla for a site that needs to perform the following tasks:
* community site with news (submitted by the site administrator only), articles and forums
* the site is supposed to sell support services and a little bit "real" goods (books, CD's etc) thus:
- several forums and articles need to be available for paying members only.
* several articles might incorporate java applets (bonus, not a requirement)

Latest IIS version

What is the latest version compatable with IIS?

Thanks

Interested in Feeback re: Content/Social Networking/Wiki Site Using Drupal

Hi All:

I am part of a larger media company that is developing a new new website that will feature a mixture of content with a social networking element. I have experience with more robust, customizable CMS systems like Vignette or have worked with home-grown ones, too. I have minor experience with Mambo and know Drupal only from reading The Onion and checking out some of the other sample sites that use it. All in all, I think from a content point of view Drupal and Mambo, etc. could all do well.

What I am curious about is any experience people may have in "marrying" Drupal with an existing Social Networking platform (Sparta, Prospero, Community Server, AIM Space) -- I see there are some FOAF modules, but I think that's just not strong enough for our needs. Also, I think there would be a database/wiki pages that would be part of this. In all, I suppose I could install different programs for each and just wrap everything with Drupal, but am not sure.

I am deliberately being vague about the type of website at the moment, but just think MySpace functionality meeting a content website of some sort (news and features driven).

I was initially hot on Mambo, but given all the problems they have with support right now, I am now drawn to Drupal. If we do choose Drupal, I don't mind saying we will probably be using these boards to find some developers to help build this (Los Angeles-based folks have a definite edge since that's where the site will be). My goal is to become as educated as possible about how integrated Drupal can get to other programs for a seamless experience.

E-Commerce module for 4.7?

Great job on the release of 4.7.
When I filter the modules for 4.7 only, there isn't an ecommerse mod. Can I use the one that comes up under 4.6? Or is there a better one to use.

Thanks.

New Site has many issues

I am trying to set up:

http://testing.ashtech.com.au/ntshelter/

at ntshelter.org.au and have the phptemplate engine set up.

However, when I follow the info posted here: http://drupal.org/node/11810 it turns into a mess as you can see at ntshelter.org.au.

Can it do what I need?

Hi,

I am a designer and am just starting to get to grips with dreamweaver (mainly design view) I would like to start designing dynamic websites and wondered if drupal would be the answer.

What I would like to be able to do is have a site with sections. For example a funniest jokes you've heard section, where web visitors can type in a add their jokes. I have read a bit about Drupal, will this do what I want it to. Is it relatively easy to customise?

I work on Mac OSX

Many thanks
