RSS Feeds

I am looking to send OUTGOING RSS feeds. Is Drupal capable of this? If so, how do I go about setting it up properly? How do I offer the RSS feeds out after it is set up and how do I contact the major agenies(whom ever they may be) about my new fedd so that they check it.

This is a whole new area for me and I know nothing about any of it so please be very claer and treat me as the dumb blonde I am! :)

new install on new host

My organization is on the verge of redesigning its website, and we're exploring different CMSes. We're also wanting to switch hosting providors. What we want to do is design the new site on the new host's server. Once we have the site ready (designed, tested, etc.), we want to switch the DNS from the old host to the new. The new account is shared hosting; since the domain resolves to our current address, we'd have to access the new/test site during "construction" by ip/~accountname. (The new host has MySQL, PHP, and meets all the other requirements for using Drupal.)

Multi subdomain install

I am working on a website that will use multiple subdomains for the content, each subdomain containing different types of content. Each site will be different, but I need each of the sites to be able to use the same login information. So if someone creates an account at subdomain1, they get an account under the same name at subdomain2. Is this possible?

Multiple departments in one setup?

I'm wondering how best to approach the following prior to installing 4.7 in case there is a preferred way to start out. I'll use a newspaper as analogy whereby you have a Business section, a Sports section, a Local News section, etc. Ostensibly each section has its own front page. My experience with v4.6.6 has been that content gets published on a single front page (if you want it to). So I'm wondering how I might go about creating the one site with multiple departments.

Search across multiple sites?

If I set up multiple sites via subdirectories, one Drupal 4.7 installation, and one database (different table prefix for each) for example:

mydomain.com/cms/moo
mydomain.com/cms/shoo
mydomain.com/cms/pork

...can a Search be constructed across all three sites? For instance, someone at /moo does a search and there is info in /pork that applies, can it be displayed in the search results? That was a handy option when I was using Movable Type.
