Is Drupal a viable solution for my website? Please review What is Drupal before posting.

A Project I am Wanting to Start

I am wanting to use Drupal 4.7 or 4.6 if needed for the following project I am working on.

I've done some research on Drupal and am not quite sure if it is able to be done. I don't have hosting to install Drupal and run my own tests.

Basically, I like a few things that MySpace lets you do. Specifically, adding of the friends and the profile abilities.

I am wanting to start a community where people can have their own profile with a journal and the ability to add other friends.

Closed user groups

Hi,
I am currently reasearching a solution for the company's intranet. I am familiar with drupal and will probably use it. But i need a specific function and would like your help with it.
I need to divide the users into groups. With each group having a group admin. The group admin should be able to add/remove and manage users of his group.

Drupal on a shared host (fasthosts)

I'd like to instal drupal on a shared host (the hosting company is fasthosts)

There are various limitations that are in place on my shared hosting:

Unavailable database privilages:
* ALL
* FILE
* PROCESS
* RELOAD
* SHOW DATABASES

Restricted .htaccess usage.

... Does this mean that I wont be able to successfully instal Drupal? :(

(I've tried and I cant get themes to work and some configurations dont seem to work...)

Thanks for your feedback in advance,

Transitioning

Hi,

We currently have a phpBB forum and a WordPress blog. Is it possible to transfer all our members and content from phpBB and WordPress to Drupal?

Thanks

Inventory Database

I am trying to find a good resolution to a project I'm doing this weekend. I work for a company that deals in clothing apparel and wish to setup a website database for the reps to log in and check inventory. They don't want to go as far as integrating it with their in-house system but have an assistant manual add the quantities on a bi-weekly basis. It's basically to give the reps a close idea of what and how much is in stock that half of the month.

Share Users Across Multiple Sites

I know this topic has been talked about extensively in many different places around the drupal site, but I was wondering if anyone has actually managed to share usernames/passwords and sessions etc. across multiple sites/domains and/or databases and what they found was the most efficient way of doing this without making future upgrades a real chore.

Is anyone working on some kind of plug in architecture or will this kind of functionality ever make it to the core? I would have thought there was enough demand for it.

Cheers,

Alex
