Before you start

Hi All,

We're considering Drupal as a possible new foundation for our sites, (as it has some great features and is so wonderfully customizeable) and I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge about/experience with using Drupal in a high-traffic, big-user environment they can help with as we're deciding which way to go.

I want to make sure I'm not barking up a tree that invlolves us buying a gazillion new server machines to serve our current audience with a drupal app.

Our Site Specs:

I am new here and I have two questions.

1. Which version of drupal should I install? Some of the modules I think I would need to use only work with 4.6. 2.How does one prevent from investing time and data in a module and then being left high and dry without an upgrade?

I wish to make my forum with drupal in Indian national language Hindi. I just wish to make it with some of good functions. but I am not a programmer. so I face some (actually a lot) problems. but now I am getting easy with drupal.

I want a help from you is about a drupal site. I wish to make site like http://www.manogat.com. this is a community forum in Marathi( which is my mother toung and I wish to make site like this in Hindi.I am working on translation for Hindi.

But I want to know about some function of drupal which make this site very usefull.

1)one of this is dynamic font support. this site use unicode font but they embed their font in it. so user from win98 can see this site easily. how do I do this ? I mean I can make dynamic font but how to add it in drupal. I know basic html but here there is no such html thing.

2)you can log in with name in Marathi(unicode). how to make it possible it on my language(site)?

3)in user profile there is a link - send masage to that user. how to add this.

4) see the editor this editor is different form our normal editor. and tinymce. how to add this. this have a great support called spell check in Marathi. this is only online spell check in Marathi.

5) please try to explain something about comment. they are very good. collesped and can expand. how to make this in my drupal.

Is it possible to remove an RSS feed from the front page but not its feed items? I'm using Aggregator2, and I love how it turns RSS feed items into individual nodes. I'd like to put some of these nodes on the front page, but I definitely don't want to include the node for the feed as a whole on the front page. Whenever I turn off "promote to front page" for the feed, though, all subsequent feed items ALSO default to not being on the front page.

I would like to find out if i was to download the 'bundle' included in XAMMP (mysql, php apache etc) whether i can 'backtrack' to the recommended versions of php and mysql as xammp has the latest php and drupal recommends 4.3 and drupal also recommends mysql 4.0 and the xammp package comes with mysql 5 (but i believe i can switch it with a command to mysql).... i'm doing this on a local machine with xp pro before i muddle around with it on a server.... any advice or opinions is appreciated! thanks!

Hello all - I'm new to the forums and to Drupal in general. At this point, I've merely been reading about Drupal on this site and on the CMS Matrix web site and I'm trying to determine if it can do some of the things I'd like with a new web site project.

What I'd like to include on the site are the following:

Regular articles from multiple authors
Blog
Forums
Fee-based Web Site Directory, with searchability (where users can submit their topic-specific web site for review/acceptance)
Fee-based Classified Ads section
