Questions about moving from Joomla to Drupal

First of all, I have searched but surprisingly could not find the answers to my questions though I hope you guys don't mind (I could have missed them, it is early in the morning and I can't sleep :P).

Right now I am pissed off at Joomla due to many random bugs and the forums being totally worthless for getting support. I have looked into Drupal (and the community) and so far have been impressed with what I have seen. So I have a few questions about converting my Game fan-site (www.libraryofrage.net) from Joomla to Drupal.

Before I begin I want to say that I am an experienced php programmer, however since my site is just a volunteer fansite (which I make no money off of) I don't want to spend an extreme amount of effort to get my site back to the state that it is now with the only difference being the backend.

Drupal right for my articles/resource/user's website?

TBH, I've posted this on "independent" webmaster/designer's type of forums but with no response... So I decided to post here since you all are experts on this CMS and can tell me what it can or can not do... :)

I'm fairly sure that I've narrowed the CMS field to either Joomla or Drupal. (I'd add Typo3 but I've heard the learning curve is way too steep.) And although I have played a bit with the demos at opensourcecms.com, I'm not keen on focusing on one or the other and learning a new software if it is not going to work in the end. Frankly, my experience level is newbie, however when I put my hand to the plow I learn the software. I'm the type that actually reads the documentation, make use of forum searches, and ask questions. I learned Nucleus fairly quickly as well as Coppermine and SMF. But I know this website project will be much more involved. I'm not on a deadline timetable for this, so I can take a bit of time to learn a new system. (although not forever, iykwim?)

Anyway, here are my full requirements:

Website that I like and will be along the same lines of what I will be developing: (not necessarily the design but the concept)

what: articles on topics, directory of businesses by location, and reviews of products/businesses, and more

Same user names for .com and .co.uk

I have installed a few Drups in the past

I need to install two tlds on the same database

eg: drupal.com and drupal.co.uk

users should be able to be kept logged in if they switch btwn the two

there will be a link on the corner of a page with a US/UK picture linking to either sites

how best can I install these in 5.0 so the above condition is satisfied
