Is Drupal a viable solution for my website? Please review What is Drupal before posting.

Should I upgrade to 5.0? - Writer, editor, and publisher roles using Workflow and Actions Modules.

I have inherited a website running on an older version of Drupalm, 4.5 or 4.6 I cannot remember, and I want to know if it supports writer, editor, and publisher roles?

We are moving our website to new hardware, and I thought I would go ahead and upgrade Drupal in the process. Drupal 5.0 recommends installing 4.7 before upgrading to 5.0, so I will be doing that first, but . . . I am wondering whether I should go ahead and upgrade to 5.0.

My main dilemma is that I want to be able to set up writer, editor, and publisher roles for Drupal. (Writer writes the article, editor "polishes" it up a bit and publisher "approves" it for posting.)

Strangely enough, at least in 4.7, this was not as easy as it might seem, due to the fact that once a user creates a page, no one can view it to edit or publish it, unless they have "administer nodes" access.

One person seemed to have found a solution, however, and posted it back in August of last year: http://drupal.org/node/66372

However, they were using 4.7. My question is whether others have implemented the same (or similar) solution in 5.0, or if 5.0 perhaps even has better support for these features. I will happily move to 5.0 when upgrading IF it can provide the features I want, but it is going to be an "untested" solution, I might hold off...

Help decidind, a bit overwhelmed.

Hello Drupal community!

I've had my eye on Drupal for quite some time now, but haven't yet had the time to jump right in and get going.

Now that I've been able to dig deeper into the incredibly expansive universe that you call Drupal, I must admint that with all the features, add-ons/plugins, etc. I have become a bit overwhelmed and no longer know where to begin on accomplishing my goals.

What I'm looking to do is set up a page for a school district, and each school has its own section, with each section being editable by certain users.

So we'll have districtpage.org

Then it'll break down to say:

districtpage.org/school1/ <-- School 1 index page, editable by someone of choosing.
districtpage.org/school2/ <-- Same as above.
districtpage.org/school3/ <-- Same as above.

etc, etc.

Now I want certain users to be able to edit say, school3/, but not school2/

Also I want to be able to get deeper than that... Say:

districtpage.org/school1/science/ <-- science index page, editable by someone of choosing.
districtpage.org/school1/science/mrssmith/ <-- mrssmith personal section inside science section, editable by mrssmith.
districtpage.org/school1/science/mrbarnes/ <-- same deal as above.
districtpage.org/school1/math/ <-- math index page.

etc, etc. And only have certain users be able to edit their own personal space.

How much of this can be accomplished w/ Drupal?

Hi everyone,
I apologized for another "Can I do this w/ Drupal" post, but after having searched the forums a bit, I didn't see anything close to a consolidated answer or an example, so maybe this could be helpful for the next guy looking to do this. Here goes.

Programming Within Drupal...

Hello,

I just have another short question if i may:

I am an ASP.NET programmer usually and pretty much unacquainted with php. If i decide to run Drupal, how much programming might I run into. I have already programmed my website and would like to use Drupal as a CMS for it... Im slightly concerned that I might (im not sure though) have to do some php programming when i really dont have the experience.

Thanks,
Sam

Long list of questions about what Drupal can do

Hi,

I'm currently evaluating a number of CMS Solutions but it's taking me an awful long time and I just can't easily find out many of the vital questions I have.

Some like "Can it host multiple websites without separate installations" are tricky to find out which has meant I've needed to install loads of cms's to find out and this takes a long time.

So I thought I'd cheat and ask the people who know. If you think I'm being cheeky please just ignore me but if you know this CMS well and want to help me out I'd be very grateful if you could look at my features wish list and tell me which are possible and which aren't.

Many thanks to anyone who replies.

These aren't all requirements, for me the closest CMS will win.
It's also worth noting here we are wanting many completely unrelated sites to be running with this CMS not just one.

* Allows for integration with additional plug-ins where required
For example, future features might include forums, mapping packages, statistics,
geographical tracking, etc.

* Customisable front-end styles on the CMS interface
We would like to be able to style up the interface of each separate instance of the CMS in different look & feels.
Specifically we want to be able to change colours, font styles, and maybe images.

News and Info Managmenent/ User Roles

Hello,

We were looking into using Drupal for our NGO's website and a few concerns came to mind that I wanted to ask about:

1- Does Drupal offer management of news and info based on time? For example, posting news today and wanting it to be automatically removed in 1 month. Or perhaps allowing only a certain number of news pieces per page and more recent news has priority on that page. (i hope that was somewhat clear)
